Umm... for those people who work or have worked on comics. What are the page dimensions you work in? When designing the layout for a page, do you design your compositions based on the page, the story, the individual panels? I fail at all this technical stuff and any pointers you can offer would be appreciated. Thanks in advance ( Read more... )

The final page size I'm shooting for is always 6.625"x10.25" with a 0.25" gutter around each edge. (So, really, 6.125"x9.75".) Actually work at 10"x16", though, since I do most everything by hand.

As far as designing the panels... I do it based on the story. I see the story as a movie in my head, so I take notes on what kind of shot I'm using, who needs to be in the panel, who is the focus, where my word bubbles need to go...

I thumbnail each panel by itself, and then I look at them all to see if I can even lay them all out on the page the way they are (landscape/portrait), and - if I can't (which is common) - I make revisions accordingly.

I know that sounds really jumbled, and I apologize. I find I often fail at technical stuff too; but that's what I can offer.
