I jumped on it because it was free to open an account. I've been meaning to for some time now, but didn't want to pay up. What great timing.

I'll come back to LJ once they stop being eye-gouging. Maybe. Because all the comms I like are on LJ anyways.

ikr? the timing is very convenient, but good for them for taking advantage of all the people jumping ship. personally though, i cannot abide all that damn red on the DW pages. so ugly.

ontd is still looking flawless actually, the commenting section is pretty similar to how old lj looked like, only purple lol. praise the baby jesus 4 this imo!!

i have a feeling they'll be making a lot of adjustments to it tbh, everyone hates it sooo much. they'd be daft not to listen.

Welp, DW said it was prepping for free accounts since at least November, but very good for me nonetheless. IDK, I really like red lol.

Only purple. Will check out later. I love purple too!

Uhh, they have already released a patch but like... it's not what 99% of complainers wanted (e.g. subject heading and the sacking of igrick, and oh of course a complete rollback)

How similar is Dreamwidth to LJ?

I would say about 85% the same, only that DW has different labels for things and that it's more red. However, the staff is very transparent with changes and bugs.

EDIT: Let me be a lil more clear on that. It's similar enough that you can import your LJ entries to DW, and they'll essentially stay the same, format and all.

I recently - aka today lmao - made an account over there, too. I've linked it up with this one so it still posts things here, which is handy.

I adore how much it looks like the old LJ. Granted, the layouts aren't spectacular, but I can live with that.
