Ah. I just finished re-watching "Signs" and I still love it. I thought once I knew the story that all the interest would be lost but it's told in such a human way, with such believable characters that even without the suspense it's an amazing film. It doesn't count when I say it scared me, right? Ah. Thought so. Though, watching his movies for the fright jumping factor is a little bit of the selling-him-short syndrome. Or maybe that's just me.

I adore that movie, and yes, there were those frightning moments from time to time, I'll name one - the alien on the roof, I jumped at that part.

I like it for so many things, including what you've mentioned, in fact - I like pretty much all of the M. Night films to date. The Village was actually one of my favourites, and I'm probably the only one to say so.

I loved The Village, partly 'coz I think it's his most beautiful film to date, and partly because it made me feel deliciously clever to be able to figure out what was going on. Also, I hope he uses Joaquin Phoenix in all of his movies, demmit. Looooove him.

Signs, on the other hand, I liked less, mainly because I didn't buy Mel Gibson's re-conversion. It made no sense. And I mean, okay, faith is irrational, but I felt we were supposed to buy into it and I really just couldn't. Like, if you're going to hold God responsible for your wife's death to the point where you renounce your faith, and then regain it when your son survives an alien-poisoning 'coz his lungs are closed by asthma, what the hell are you going to do next time a family member dies? I mean, people die! Yo! It irked me.

But I found the film very creepy, and still liked it overall, though there were some annoying acting moments. Like that sheriff chick. She bugged me.

I haven't seen signs since I saw it in theatres, so it might be worth it to see it again. I did enjoy it though.
