Into the Soggy Tea Leaves

Well folks, it's time for my (not-so-) expert Oscar predictions. What, you say, has made me decide to do this for the first time ever? 2005 marks the first year that I have seen every single contender in a main Oscar category. These categories include Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting ( Read more... )

good picks, I highly enjoy your rationale for them too. I think you're probably right with a lot (or all) of them. You seem to know how the academy thinks (or from what I know of them that's how they go, I usually watch the awards keenly). I haven't seen nearly enough movies this year to have much say though.

One thing the academy seems to do is snub Jim Carrey though, I always found that too bad cause I think he's an amazing actor. Anyway I can't wait for the awards, I very much look forward to Jon Stewart, hopefully I can download them after they are on. (Also I really hope Spielberg wins for Munich, though I am very much biased towards him)

That was quite the intriguing read, as was said, your rationale and enunciation kept me intrigued. I think Brokeback and Capote are the frontrunners, though I favour Crash because it moved me the most. Although Brokeback was a great movie by all means, it wasn't as astonishing as I thought it would have been - yes, my expectations for that movie were very high. I think it garnered so many nods due to the fact that it's the first Hollywood film to depict a gay relationship on a non-satirical basis. Also, I could agree with the nominations for Jake and Heath, though their performances were flawed, I've taken into consideration the fact that both of them are acting so far out of their element, and taking on such a role and making it as convincing as they have is no easy task, so I implore them. A year ago, I'd have never anticipated to see Donnie Darko falling in love with Sir Ulrich von Lichtenstein. Al in all, I can pretty much agree with your Oscor predictions. But we'll see when the time comes.
