Of Religion and Science

There's a man in California I do work for on a regular basis. Let me tell you a few things about him:
  • He graduated MIT.
  • He runs his own business.
  • He's done numerous MIT lectures on mathematics and signal processing.
  • His knowledge of physics is quite extraordinary.
  • He's a devout Christian.

i guess a good question to ask him is if he is afraid of death, or what comes after death because he could be covering his bases to make sure that if there is a god, then he will make it into heaven and not be damned into a firey pit for eternity. also ask if he can feel the "presence of god" because maybe he feels a presence he cant explaine

I can't risk offending the guy seeing as he's a source of my income.

You're right, in my conclusions I neglected to add "He may have experienced something that has convinced him of the existence of the Christian God."

The problem with that is he specializes in signal analysis - a science rooted in statistics. He's therefore fully aware that just by random occurrence Million-to-One odds happen everywhere all the time. Most of these "I'm a believer because the hand of God helped me" experiences are just random hapenstance.

Take the person who misses getting involved in a fatal car accident by inches. They're talking to the TV folk afterwards about how "God must have saved me." So what about all of the other folk who died eh? Well I guess they weren't good enough for God then! No, it's just good/bad luck!

Heck, perhaps this guy was in a drug-enduced trip while at college, and ended up chatting with the Angel Gabriel for an hour or two, who knows?

Or maybe he feels to be whole he needs to have some sense of spirituality in his life. And since many people feel that urge we all have a different way of expressing it. A lot of times people feel they need religion to help ground them in that way. I am sure it also has a lot to do with how he was raised.
There are many reasons for why one would choose to worship Christianity and not all of them are bad. =p <3
