So, these non-union members: I'm guessing that don't want to be in a union but are now being told by the unions they need to join up of face unemployment? Hurrah for freedom!
I've never been a fan of unions - they almost always seem to put the interests and agendas of Leaders first rather than looking after the members.
That's right. They don't want to be member but are faced with unemployment if they don't. Unions want as many members as they can because it means more money for them and far more power. Personally though, my experience with unions is crapful. They take your money willingly but aren't very forthcoming when you have a problem that you want help with.
And yes...it's the leaders they care about first. Also, a large portion of the Labor govt are union officials.
I noticed that in the ads before the election about the number of union officials now voted into postitions of power.
I was in a union once; I joined for the legal protection they offered should I screw up a design really badly which then left people dead or injured. But, when they wanted me to walk out over someones dismissal I looked further into the case and found that the person who they thought had been sacked unfairly hadn't been and that he was a bit of an arse anyway. I left soon after that.
The last person I worked with who was a real union boy had the choice of being made redundant or chaging jobs within the company. He chose the latter and then spent most of the first week in the job on the phone to the union rep and bitching because his job title was wrong etc. The company sacked him after the first week as he had spent the week being awkward, speaking to the union rep and hadn't done any actual work. :)
