Art: Illustration for "Wyrd Byð Ful Araed" : "The Fallen King"

So, there's this story on the figure skating kinkmeme, called "Wyrd Byð Ful Araed." It's a viking AU, basically, and I've fallen totally in love with the characters and world in which it takes place. The writing style is also stark and powerful. It's one of my very favorite stories there, and I decided I wanted to illustrate a scene from it

That's amazing. The landscape reminds me a bit of the concept art for Mount Doom. And his nose... he's completely recognizable. :P

I'm not an artist, and I've only ever used Photoshop for photo manipulation stuff. I can barely conceive of using 600 layers to build up a picture from scratch like this. Great job!

Hilariously, I had a half-finished version of it where the sky was kind of purplish and odd-looking. I showed it to my co-workers and they were all "LOL IT LOOKS LIKE MORDOR." *facepalm*

Photoshop was originally developed just for photo manipulation. It's become a really powerful digital painting tool, once you figure out the best way to use it for your style of painting. Some people still can't work with it for painting, and prefer a program more like Painter.
