Inspired by a thread on EoFF, I'm wondering why young people are always written off, on everything, from politics to their own feelings ( Read more... )

Complaining is easier than doing, apathy is easier than caring. We live in a world saturated with apathy alas.

To answer the last question first, no yo uaren't, I try to practice compassion as often as possible, but like Liam says its difficult. We all need to do it more often.

The reason teenagers are written off is because they're misunderstood. Teenagers, at least in my opinion through observation, are not wise, not because they're at all deficient but simply because they haven't lived long enough. All who are older write them off as foolish because what they lack in wisdom is more than made up for in sheer energy and passion. It's a shame it's written off, because that energy and pasion is what can do some of the greatest and some of the most terrifying things in the entire world and should be harnessed for the good of mankind. However I must admit that the older you are the more experienced in general, and even those who are very simple but old know very profound things that the young and wise know.

The optimum society would take the raw power of our peers, harness it using the wisdom of the elderly, and use it to improve the world.

I'd say I agree with you for the most part. Only thing I would contest is that last bit about suicide. You run into people online for whome suicide is a game, somthing they throw in at the end of their post to get attention. Giving them the kind of empathic attention that they want only feeds their problem.

foa! Hi! ^^ I am indeed MILFY xD Anyway, thanks for your input; I can see where you're coming from.

"I hate the fact that there are so many out there who behave in ways that lead me to cynicism, and I hate the fact that at times I don't know whether to be cynical or empathetic."

Probably the truest thing I've read about this. I try not to be cynical, but people do make it hard sometimes =/
