A good trick is: limit yourself to what you'd pack for a two week trip. No more. It's always nice to have blister band-aids and liquid skin, but you can also put duct tape on blisters and that works just fine (it eliminates friction in the same way a good band-aid does), and the same theory can be applied to ordinary life. Don't bring a teakettle when you've already got a sauce pan that's perfectly fine for boiling water in :)

And I totally see your point about keeping it to two weeks BUT I won't have any money to spend on things for a while once I get there so it's going to be better to take as much as I can now so I don't have to buy things once I'm in the city unless I have to (clothes for various kinds of jobs, teaching materials, personal products I use that I already have a good supply of, etc). But you're right that if I try to keep to a two week rotation of such clothes etc I will be fine.
