In which I tell ffnet "screw you guys, I'm going home".

May 30, 2012 21:22

Just pulled all my stuff off ffnet after I got a notice saying they removed my Clyde/Craig for 'not conforming to rating' and 'not G rated summary'. Seriously, one swear word, not even a bad one, is not going to corrupt anyone, but fine. I will take my obscene self on over to AO3. I was so so so close to leaving anyway, so now it's done. Now I can ( Read more... )

ugh, that is outrageous. That makes me want to leave, too, but yeah, SP fandom, where is it?? FF.N is the only place where it seems to be active in terms of actual content being posted, but I think there is a big camp of young kids writing self insert fiction, and then the rest of us, and the two groups ignore each other. I joined Tumblr thinking that was where the fandom was happening, and there is some stuff posted there, but it's mostly recycled art and a few good art blogs that post original content to Tumblr (though they also seem to post it to DA for the most part). It's impossible to have a conversation on Tumblr because you can't do threads. I miss having a SP element on LJ, even if it was smallish ( ... )

I know! Seriously, we had SOOOO many big bang entries! Where did everyone go? And I got like 2 comments on mine. Obviously I didn't write it for comments but daaaaamn 50 thousand words and I get just. 2. comments? I didn't think it was THAT bad. And the art, omg, the art should have a hundred comments alone.

And I hate tumblr for new content, it's just not a good format, imo, no conversations, REALLY hard to track stuff. Of course I may be doing it wrong. It's fun for graphics and general squee and porny fanart, but fic? No. Just no. AO3 is awesome so far, I really like the format and customisable reading layouts etc. Do you have one? If not I have invites if you want one.

(cough you should come over to the dark sideAvengers fandom, it's awesome. No, seriously. Awesome. I'm having a blast. Plus I really want to read more Holly!fic, sooooo :p I may or may not have read my stalkery way through a lot of your Trek back catalogue over the last few weeks while not studying for exams COUGH. Possibly. Now I need more, okay? XD ( ... )

Yeah, the comment turnout for the big bang was upsetting -- one of my favorite fics got only one comment, mine. I'm not sure what's going on, but the fandom has definitely mutated since I started looking into it back in 2010, and not in great ways. I loved your fic and the art was indeed awesome, so I don't think content is the problem, it's just a lack of participation across the board.

I keep meaning to start an AO3 account, and multiple people have sent me invites, and I've lost track of them -- can you send one? Maybe I'll do that tonight, with the 10,000 other things I need to do. I have to go the GYM after work, what is this?? ;___;

You know, big new fandoms like Avengers are so fun, and I had a blast back in the day with the Trek stuff, but I just don't have any shippy feelings about this movie! I envy my friends who are into it, though, it does seem like fun.

I've had a couple of other friends express interest in writing for the meme again, so I have hope! :)
