There is a silver ring amongst the seller's wares; Mitsuhide buys it on a whim, deciding Ranmaru might appreciate it as a gift.
#02 - Hero
He thinks is going to die, but before the final blow is landed Lord Mitsuhide charges onto the scene and slays his attacker; from that day forward, Ranmaru thinks of Mitsuhide as a hero.
#03 - Memory
Nothing can destroy his memories, and nobody can take away his feelings; Akechi Mitsuhide continued to live on in Ranmaru's heart throughout his entire life.
#04 - Box
He draws the black silk out of its box and pauses for a moment; the material makes him think of someone he has loved and lost.
#05 - Run
Trying to keep up with Nobunaga was proving hard for Mitsuhide, yet his young student walked step by step at the Demon King's side without the slightest bit of effort.
#06 - Hurricane
Intense winds shake the trees and howl into the night; two who were stuck outside when the bad weather came sit together in the shelter of a cave, hoping it will calm soon.
#07 - Wings
He reaches out for the familiar figure, but it fades; there is only a white bird there, which opens it wings and flies away as Ranmaru watches with sad eyes.
#08 - Cold
Nouhime steps outside and is both surprised and amused to see Mitsuhide and Ranmaru in the middle of an snowball fight; both are laughing and seemingly not bothered by the cold at all.
#09 - Red
He bleeds from the chest, willing to stain red the blade of the one he loves if that is what history needs from him.
#10 - Drink
Mitsuhide says he doesn't drink because he wishes to keep his body pure; Ranmaru knows that this is a lie designed to hide the fact that he can't handle his alcohol.
#11 - Midnight
Midnight brings them together; their bodies become one and their hearts beat at the same pace when they are under the sheets.
#12 - Temptation
Ranmaru watches Mitsuhide, his heart longing for his love but his body yearning for his attentions; it takes a lot of restraint on his part not to give in to temptation and beg to be touched and adored.
#13 - View
Mitsuhide rises, water dripping from his naked body, and Ranmaru cannot help but stare for a moment at the beautiful view before him.
#14 - Music
One of Mitsuhide's talents that is not so well known amongst the Oda forces is his ability to play the flute, because he rarely plays for others; Ranmaru is one of the few he has ever demonstrated his ability to and the young man is grateful for this privilege.
#15 - Silk
Whenever he looked at Mitsuhide's hair, Ranmaru thought that not even silk could match its beautiful sheen.
#16 - Cover
Nobunaga places the soft white covering over Mitsuhide's body, never saying a word to his retainers; only Ranmaru knows that his Lord grieves for his mentor, and that together in silence they mourn.
#17 - Promise
They will meet in the next life, and it will be in a time without war; Ranmaru remembers and restates this every time he sees a white feather float through the air.
#18 - Dream
The young Mori Ranmaru looks up and finds his gaze locking with that of another of Lord Saito's new retainers; the samurai's gentle eyes seem unreal for someone wielding a sword, and he wonders briefly if he is dreaming.
#19 - Candle
“If we put out the candle, Ranmaru, we may not be able to see but we can still hear and touch, can we not?”
#20 - Talent
Both Mitsuhide and Ranmaru are known for being exceptionally talented individuals, but they are also known for being more talented when they work as a team; somehow they become much more when together than they could ever be when apart.
#21 - Silence
They make love silently, each hushing the cries they wish to make, because it feels important that tonight they concentrate on the sense of touch above all others.
#22 - Journey
Ranmaru had always thought they would journey through life side by side as allies; to find his path leads to slaying or being slain by Mitsuhide makes him feel the most horrific kind of pain.
#23 - Fire
The fires of Honnoji burn bright, turning the temple into ash, but all Mitsuhide can see is everything that he had loved being snatched from him; for the land he had sacrificed all that he cherished the most.
#24 - Strength
Over time Ranmaru had realised that he was mentally stronger than his beloved mentor, and that he was the only one who knew Mitsuhide well enough to keep him from breaking down.
#25 - Mask
Ranmaru can see past Mitsuhide's calm mask, and it scares him, because what he sees is a face full of sadness and guilt at actions not yet taken.
#26 - Ice
Mitsuhide copes with winter easily, and looks almost at home amongst the ice; Ranmaru secretly thinks that he looks like a God of the season, with his smooth skin as white as freshly-fallen snow.
#27 - Fall
Mitsuhide catches Ranmaru around the waist before he can fall over; his grip is firm, his touch reassuring.
#28 - Forgotten
Their love would be forgotten by history, which would tell a story of bitterness between them that simply wasn't true.
#29 - Dance
Ranmaru accepts Mitsuhide's request for a dance and moves in time with his mentor; it feels intimate somehow, and he finds himself wishing that they were alone.
#30 - Body
Lord Mitsuhide's body is still in his arms, and all Ranmaru can do is cry for what he has lost.
#31 - Sacred
Mitsuhide trails a hand down Ranmaru's body, admiring his skin and thinking just how lucky he is to have seen something as sacred and private as this.
#32 - Farewells
Their farewell is written in blood by implements of steel; only one dies, but two hearts break.
#33 - World
“Perhaps this world no longer has need for one such as I,” says Mitsuhide; Ranmaru tries to convince him otherwise, but only gets a sad smile for his efforts.
#34 - Formal
Ranmaru immediately releases something is wrong when Mitsuhide addresses him in a formal manner; his mentor usually talked to him in a friendly, softer manner.
#35 - Fever
Mitsuhide's hand brushes against his arm, and it causes a rush of heat so intense that Ranmaru would feel that he must surely be ill with a fever, were it not for the fact that his heart was beating so rapidly too.
#36 - Laugh
Mitsuhide laughs for the first time in months; Ranmaru feels an immense sense of relief at this, because it is a sound he had almost thought he'd never hear again.
#37 - Lies
“I'm fine, Ranmaru... I just feel a little tired,” said Mitsuhide, patting his friend on the shoulder but not looking him in the eye.
#38 - Forever
No matter what happens, no matter what fate throws their way, Ranmaru knows one thing will never change: his belief in his mentor.
#39 - Overwhelmed
He hears Ranmaru's laughter in his mind and feels a sudden, overwhelming urge to end it all; but then closes his eyes and sees Ranmaru's face, and knows that he must continue to live.
#40 - Whisper
Those whispers are soft and inviting; Ranmaru tenses, heat flooding his body as Mitsuhide draws closer.
#41 - Wait
“Lord Mitsuhide, I want to help you and will wait for you to feel ready to speak to me, but please, don't keep me waiting for too long...”
#42 - Talk
By the time they part and head for their rooms it is well past midnight; neither had noticed how much time had passed during their long talk, so wrapped up were they in one another.
#43 - Search
He searches the castle, needing to ask his mentor one final question; why?
#44 - Hope
All Ranmaru can do is hope that his words and actions will change Mitsuhide's mind; he doesn't want to even think about what might happen if they don't.
#45 - Eclipse
For a moment everything is turned pitch black as the sun is hidden behind the moon; Ranmaru shivers and draws closer to Mitsuhide, fearful of this ill omen.
#46 - Gravity
As naturally as gravity draws things to the ground, Ranmaru was drawn to Mitsuhide's side only days after they met.
#47 - Highway
The road ahead is unclear; his mentor's betrayal means his future is not at all certain.
#48 - Unknown
Ranmaru talks quite confidently about Lord Nobunaga one day ruling Japan and what will happen when he does; Mitsuhide, however, sees only the unknown when he looks ahead to the future, and this worries him.
#49 - Lock
As their weapons lock Ranmaru gives Mitsuhide a pleading look, but Mitsuhide remains steadfast; this is the path he has chosen, and he will continue to walk it even though it forces him to fight the one he loves.
#50 - Breathe
It is hard to breathe steadily; being touched there by Lord Mitsuhide is enough to start his heart racing in his chest.
