Perpetual commuters

I was reading this old entry over at Nerd's Eye View, in which she is amazed and confused about those who are forever in transit, traveling from one place to the next to fulfill their business needs.  Personally, I like being surrounded by those restless business types, especially when travelling for pleasure.  I can look at tehm and think "that's ( Read more... )

wow, a post! i was beginning to think that LJ was deserted ;)

i'm honestly not sure if i get the whole business travel thing. the fun i have exploring new places and meeting new faces gets a bit crushed by the whole jetlag and "24 hours in a plane" thing. I kinda look forward to going, but am always very, very glad when i get home - I don't get remotely homesick, it's just that i really hate the travelling part of travelling.

i think i can deal with flights within asia. 10-hour trips and no jetlag suits me just fine.

did you say something recently about a europe trip?

I did - just got back from Norway and Austria, going to a cousin's wedding (Norway) and a friend's wedding (Austria). Had a blast, it was awesome, but it took my body about a fortnight to adjust back to going to sleep before midnight, as when we went to sleep there (around 1.30am) it was around 9.30am here.

To me the appeal of 24 hour flights is the forced detachment from everything. No internet, no phone calls, just me, a movie (or five) and a nice lady bringing me drinks now and then. Plus the added bonus of people-watching at airports. Don't get me wrong, I'm always glad to get home, but it's that renewed appreciation of home that I love, too.
