Well, it sounds like he's just not ready to marry. And, frankly, you are young. Don't get ahead of yourself.

You've been emotionally on your own for years, but never "on your own on your own". If it doesn't work with the boy, it might be a great chance for you to find out you can stand on your own two feet. (I'm not calling you needy. I KNOW you're independent.)
