Google Buzz, then

Since everyone else is doing it, here are my two cents on this whole little fiasco. And I'll preface it by saying that, like a lot of people, I like Google, usually. Gmail is a superb mail client, and while I don't use them so much any more, Google Reader and iGoogle are excellent at what they do. They usually get stuff like this right, which is ( Read more... )

Hmm, did CTRL-F 'buzz' on gmail and found the link at the bottom that says 'turn off Buzz', which I then clicked. Not that my experience before wasn't annoying - that's why I turned it off.

Also also, the weird way the went about it - develop something that looks like other stuff, deploy it without warning, make it on by default and unobvious to disable - sounds like a quick second-to-market launch by a company desperate for mindshare before a competitor's product becomes generic: it feels like what you might do if you were threatened by Google Wave.
