Football Songs #1: The England Squad

I should have known that a bad performance in England's opening game - itself something of an inevitability - would have slightly dampened my enthusiasm for spending this week talking about various England-related World Cup songs, and so it's proved. Nevertheless, although I'm scaling back the "post a day" idea, I still want to get a few posts up

I seem to recall that This Time was recorded in advance of Ron's twenty-two being named; I believe that some of the players that sang on the record (and also appeared on the sleeve) did not actually make the final squad, which seems cruel with hindsight.

I seem to remember Tony Morley being one of the players singing on the record who never made the final squad, whereas it must have been odd for Steve Foster miming along to the song as part of the England squad on Top of the Pops when he never actually sang on it!
