Sounds like burn out. To many, to long, and fell victim to the cluster fuck of the new generations of MMO players who basically treat MMOs like counterstrike and various other xbox/psp FPS en mass games. It's very rare to find MMO players who remember what it was like to table top and pen and paper so know how to behave respectfully and just have fun.
I recall trying out EQ1 again about a year or so ago with a friend that never stopped and while the people I grouped with were nice, I couldn't help but feel out of place even just grinding exp due to the level/AA gap. I suppose newer MMOs have warped my perspective.
