Feeling a just a tad bit bitter

I'm supposed to be in London, England right now with a group of my students on a one-week study tour, but the faculty member leading the study tour dropped me from the trip -- even though the students wanted me to go on the trip with them -- because the faculty member leading the trip doesn't like me.

Why this particular faculty member doesn't like ( Read more... )

Faculty members tend to be the most petty pieces of human garbage imaginable. Ugh.

It's unfortunate, but what I've also noticed is that the more prestigious the educational institution, the nastier the faculty members are. I'm proud to be employed by Emory University right now, which has always ranked within the top 25 universities in the U.S., but the faculty members have been the most difficult to work with. I guess they become conceited knowing that they're faculty at Emory because of the prestige that comes with the Emory brand. Honestly, though, the name "Emory" doesn't go very far beyond the Southeast and Midwest. Like, I don't think many people on the West Coast and Northeast know of the Emory brand as there are many more prestigious institutions on the West Coast (i.e., Stanford, Berkley, USC, UCLA) and Northeast (i.e., Harvard, Brown, Yale, Columbia, allow me to throw in NYU in there because I'm an NYU alum!).

Oh, I know all about that. The faculty here at Stanford can be super nasty. >:(

And, let me guess -- 99% of the time, there's absolutely no reason for their nastiness, right? Yet, they'll be nasty to you and you're like, "Why?" It happens to me all the time at Emory. But, at Emory, they always say that "Faculty are God." We have one faculty member who was arrested and charged for domestic violence... and she continues to teach undergrads. I'm like, "How is this possible?!?!?!"

Hi, Sei! I know that tomorrow is your birthday. I am sending you lots of NYC love right now. I hope you're well and that life is good. I'm sure it has its ups and downs. But you deserve happiness.

I don't have your cell phone number for some reason, otherwise I would have texted you. LJ is the only way to get in touch with you.

My cell is 917-676-0871. Call me! xoxo

Brian

I don't like traveling with other staff/faculty members, anyway. Too confining. I'll be taking a group of students to Shanghai again in August and no other staff/faculty will be traveling with me. I'll get to enjoy my time with the students.
