Hello friends!!!
Como estan? Things with me are grand...I thought I'd tell you lucky ducklings alllll about my trip to NY and other miscellaneous things!! It should be fun.
I woke up Tuesday morning at like 8AM and piled into the van and started the drive out to Syracuse, NY. 6 hours. Six. SIX HOURS. JKSAKFKLJAF. Now don't get me wrong, I do love the rents dearly, but let's keep in mind that Dan didn't come, so it was just myself and Momma and Papa Rich. So naturally, I did want to break things by the end of the trip. Yeah my parents are pretty cool, but I can only handle so much of my mom's drawn out and off topic stories and my dad's insanely bad jokes. But the 6 hours consisted of reading, a lot of sleeping, and listening to unhealthy amounts of Afternoon Delight. Oh, and also thinking. Have you ever been in the car for a really long time, and you just end up thinking way way wayyyyy too much? I would think about a certain thing and get all depressed and then think about another thing and get all happy...haha. Anyways. Nose itch.
When we first arrived at Syracuse, we were driving around the city (which was ehh), and my dad brilliantly informed me that this was the campus. I think I could have pretty much cried, but thank God he was wrong. We finally arrived on the REAL campus, which was great. I absolutely loved the school. It's a traditional campus with gorgeous buildings. We forgot a camera, but I have some pretty sweet pictures on my phone. ;) Hehe. The school is a really nice balance of everything...not too huge, not too small...not too intensly city, but not in the middle of nowhere...also it's more academically realistic for me than say, BU or BC. It's a nice target school for me. They also have serious school spirit, division I sports, a gorgeous chapel, and a kick arse comms school. Kahchinggggggg. Only things-- the weather? 40 inches of snow? No thank you? Also, it's a Pepsi school. Diet Coke and I have one more precious year together. Gaah, I'm such a traitor. ...I'm over it. Anything for love. :P
After we took a tour we went back to our hotel which was invaded by the Jr. Softball Regional Championship. There were 50 million 12 year old girls running around. Sweeeeet. We ate dinner at this place called the Spaghetti Factory, where they had tons of antiques and you either sat in a bed or a trolley car! It was sooo cool. Then I insisted we go back to the SU campus so I could fall more in love with it. When we went back to the hotel, my dad and I watched a football movie called Friday Night Lights. It was really good, except for the ending!! This Texas high school football team lost their best player and they were bad, and then made a serious comeback and made it to the state championships...and DIDN'T WIN. WHAT?! WHAT IS THAT?!!? They were supposed to WINNN!!!! I was so incredibly pissed off. They were literally like 3 or 4 yards from winning!! They were sobbing on the field and I was so sad for them that I almost cried too. OK so maybe I did. Don't make fun, haha, I can't handle sad endings.
We got up really early in the morning to drive to Ithaca. T-minus 3 hours. Ew. That made total car time 9 hours. OK, honestly, Ithaca is in the MIDDLE OF NOWHERE. It was ridiculous. I swear, I saw more corn in 3 hours than I have in my entire life. Serious amounts of cows, too. We took a tour of Ithaca, which was okay...the campus is pretty, but just not the place for me. Oh--haha, Joel--when I toured the comms building they showed us the teleprompters and I almost laughed out loud. Haah it made me miss you.
After we saw Ithaca we set out for NYC, which, according to trusty Mapquest, would take us 4 hours. Aye, aye, captain. 4 hours later, we are in Pennsylvania. Sweet navagating, dad. So in the end it took about 5 hours to get to the city, boosting it to 14 hours of quality time with the van. On the way to NYC Melanie/Steph called to see if I wanted to go to the BSB concert with them. I almost cried and was kicking myself the whole way to the city. DAMN I SO would have gone in a heartbeat. We checked into our hotel in Times Square, and went over to the TXTS booth to see what we could get for tickets. We had pretty much settled on Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and were about to get in line when a scalper offered us 3 tickets for Spamalot, which is sold out until about forever. So we bought them. OH! Also, I am an idiot and this is why: I definitely saw Christopher Sieber right in front of the TXTS booth with a couple of his friends, who, of course, is IN Spamalot. But me being me, I didn't KNOWWW that. And when I saw him, I thought 'Hmm he looks mighty familiar. School? No. Peacock? No. Ooooh I think he's on TV.' So I just kinda went up to him and said, 'Are you on TV?' And he sorta hesitated and smiled and said yes (probably all the while thinking 'stupid, stupid girl'). And so I just said OK and that he looked familiar and walked away. Then I spent a good 5 minutes trying to remember what show he was on. I finally settled on Dharma and Greg. Later I obviously realized that I was very wrong and very stupid. Ha.
The actual show was sooooooooooooooooooooooo good!!!!! I haven't had that much fun at a show in a really long time. For those of you who know the show at all -- my favorites were The Song That Goes Like This (the key changes killed me), You Won't Succeed on Broadway, The Diva's Lament (Sara Ramirez is hilarious), Where Are You (haha Prince Herbert), and His Name Is Lancelot. So pretty much, the whole second act. It was soooooooo good. David Hyde Pierce was SO funny, as was Tim Curry, who by the way has the sketchiest head shot EVER. We hung out at the stage door for a while after, and I got autographs and talked to Christopher Sieber who recognized and laughed at me. Tim Curry didn't come out though. :( I think I just wanted to tell him that I loved him in Home Alone.
On Thursday I slept really late, watched this freaky documentary about this family who lived in a house that used to be a morgue...and their son was posessed (freaky), and went to lunch. Joel called (he's alive!) and I had a nice chat with him. Then, I learned that pickles are CUCUMBERS! THAT ARE PICKLED!!! WHAT?! DID YOU KNOW THAT?! CAUSE I DIDN'T! Gosh. I am still a little amazed. Then we went over to the Museum of Modern Art, which was awesome! It's a little overwhelming/intense...taking that much art in at once...but it was really enjoyable. I thhought of Lizzie the whole time. They have the original Starry Night painting! Pointalism is my new favorite.
As for Thursday Night -- As much as I felt like a dirty dirty traitor I could not pass up a chance to go to Yankee Stadium!!! IT IS HUUUUUUUUUUUUGE. It's like twice the size of Fenway, and a good portion of it was full. And it's not like it was a huge game, they were only playing Texas. Their fans are hardcore. It is a crazy place, really hard not to get caught up in the excitement there and cheer and clap and yell. So I admit with a heavy heart that I did indeed cheer for the Yankees on Thursday night. Haha, it all just felt sort of ironic for some reason. Actually, Embree came out to pitch for NY, and did a crappy job...so my dad and I screamed "Go back to the Red Sox!!" and all Yankee fans around us started yelling it too. It was pretty hilarious. The guy next to me even turned to me and said, "I don't trust him, I bet Boston planted him here with strict instructions to suck." Hahahaaaaaaaaaa.
We drove back Friday morning(took us about 5 hours with traffic). I spent the time mostely sleeping and planning out this LJ entry. Just kidding. Or not. Total driving time = about 20 hours. Haha woooo. But really, my parents are pretty much rock for trekking me around the state of NY. Propz to the Rich padres.
I was going to make this paragraph about school but then I decided against it.
This week I am babysitting every single morning. How did that happen? I don't even like kids that much, haha. I guess it will be fun, but the dad did warn me that I'd be playing an excessive amount of Star Wars. Greeeeeaaaaaat. How do you play Star Wars?
Not this upcoming week, but next week, I am going to Montreal with the fam. Dan will be graciously joining us this time. Should be grand.
I am really going to miss my brother when he leaves for school. :( :(
Hmm. I don't know if there is anything else...besides little things. I miss Mallory and Lauren. I miss Hooliana. I miss lotsa people, I guess. Senior proofs soon. Wednesday is a big day. Eeep. Welcome home Jack. I still love work. I still love summer. I still love God. I still love you.
The end.
