it's a gloves episode!!! Even Vila's got a pair from somewhere! (I suppose those outside scenes were really cold - I felt sorry for Dayna for having to crawl on the ground in that outfit. Brr.)
She is completely unresponsive to Dorian's “welcome” kiss Yes, by the looks of it it's just part of Dorian's attempts to unsettle the rest of them with excessive innuendo, and not a normal part of the relationship between him and Soolin.
I am torn on Dayna sobbing into Tarrant's shoulder Me too. It's not an unreasonable reaction for anyone under the circumstances but she does get to be the damsel in distress a few times too many (at least three?) in this ep, so it would have been a lot better if their roles could have been reversed at that point.
No mention of the Federation or Servalan at all, as far as I recallI think there was only the bit about how Xenon had always been outside of Federation territory and is even more so "now their empire's contracted"... (No two episodes seems to be able to agree on whether the Federation is expanding

Given how this can't be set much more than a few hours after the S3 ending, there seems to be some abrupt changes in the psychology of the crew: Avon suddenly seems to properly try to take charge (in a way that I could never see that he was doing earlier) and the others seem surprisingly willing to let him, surprisingly quickly, particularly given the looks they were all giving him at the end of the last ep...
The lack of visible mourning for Cally also seems odd, particularly from Vila. I suppose it could be put down to recent trauma though, all of them being worn down to the point of emotional numbness. Of course, at the same time we get treated to a number of scenes of crew protectiveness for each other, so it's still very much a game of "watch what they do, not what they say."
That Avon should now be practically inseparable from his gun (except when he's bathing!) and refuse to interact with any stranger without it doesn't seem particularly surprising, all in all, but that Vila should be the one to decide to bring a back-up

"Gold" is coming. It will be impossible not to mention the hair again.
I'd certainly forgotten it's been minutes since the last episode because it's been weeks for me. You're right, the behaviours inn that light are.. most odd!
I must diverge from plot to have a brief burble about the opening sequence which I rather love - induces an instant urge to go and 'do' low flying, without fail everytime - it's the pull up at the end at the exact moment the music gets all "tada!" that does it I think. If the aircraft accident reports ever feature me rolling the poor microlight up into a ball in the local sanddunes someone needs to check if I was watching season 4 the day before... ;)
The fact it doesn't really match what we see of the terrain on the planet or the model sequence going into the hangar/silo is entirely by the by!
This is a grim episode though isn't it. The booby traps even after they're stranded, the instant suspicion Dorian is greeted with, the blatant hijacking of his ship by Our Heroes, the fact it turns out to have been justified! The lot...
Vila comes out fairly well - rescuing Tarrant and very nearly going back for Cally until it's clearly hopeless.
I've always enjoyed the intro too, but I have wondered whether or not it perhaps looks completely ridiculous to a professional... So it's very nice to hear that you like it too! :-)
Grim indeed. I haven't decided whether I like it or not, but I think it's quite understandable that the writer felt the need to point out textually that yes, these people actually do care for each other, even though it might not look or sound much like it at the moment...
I wonder if Servalan intended the booby traps as a mercy killing (as being stranded with a broken space-ship seems the more cruel fate) but perhaps she was only being prudent.
