"I'm his son and his daughter...It's an odd relationship"

Apr 11, 2009 15:51

I'm not sure what I find so fascinating about this little clip of Colin talking about his role in "Prayer for my Daughter." But it's an interesting contrast to a lot of the Colin footage out there. I'd say also to note the too long fringe, but I don't think I'm willing to be that much of a fangirl.

But still wearing a hoodie! )

oh, i hadn't seen this before but it just confirms my impression of colin as the thinky type :D

Very much the thinky type. And that's one of the things I like about him as an actor (and not just RPS fodder, though of course that too *g*). Usually Colin reads to me as so young--like 18 or 19--so it's nice to get some footage of him where he really comes across as early twenties.

very smooth

Always ;)

hmm, really? bradley always strikes me as the one who comes across as less mature [oh, i wonder why...]. hearing colin talk about his role there makes me want a serious interview about his take on merlin. i bet he has a lot to say.

Hmm. I guess it's not maturity level I mean. It's just... if someone showed me a typical clip of Colin I'd think he was a little younger than 22 or 23.

One of my favorite comments he's had about Merlin (I don't remember the source) is that he's such a passionate character: his heart is in the right place but his emotions get the better of him and that's why he doesn't always think things through. I really liked that idea, that explanation for some of the less than clever things Merlin does. And yeah it does make me wish there was an interview that focused more on the character than the show in general.

I have serious crush action going on for Colin

Me, too. Before this, when I was in a fandom I've always preferred to ignore that the actors even exist. But, as Bradley said, he has all of these endearing qualities.

Usually, I don't find actors nearly as interesting as their characters

Exactly. The fact is that both Bradley and Colin are so interesting as pseudo-fiction characters that I'm almost more interested in them than with Merlin and Arthur. Which is probably why I'm finally breaking down and writing RPS after years of having that be one of the few fannish lines I wouldn't cross.

Attraction is *so* interesting and complicated

Colin--actually Colin/Merlin--is very much not my fannish type, so he didn't ping for me right away. I started out thinking of him as sweet and likable but a little odd looking and yet now I think he's incredibly attractive. So, just as you say: complicated.

I like it when Colin metas. He should do it more often.

I'd say also to note the too long fringe, but I don't think I'm willing to be that much of a fangirl.

I totally support Colin meta'ing. And that isn't universally true for actors talking about the characters they play. In fact, now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure it's the minority.

What? *is picture of innocence*

Out of curiosity, who else do you enjoy hearing meta about their characters?

Well, Patrick Stewart and Kate Winstlet are two that occur to me.

Oh, God. I've seen this some time ago and was absolutely smitten by it. I adore when actors show so mucn insight in roles that they're playing instead of making it just a craft *Colin Farrell I'm looking at you*
I whole-heartedly support Colin metas! *pom poms*

Yeah, what he says is unusually interesting for an actor talking about a character they play--a lot of the time I don't want to hear their take as it's a great deal less interesting than the actual result.

And I'm always a fan of footage where he's clearly less nervous.
