The thing to remember about the Pope - even if you really despise the way the Catholic Church has really clung to the conservative side of reproductive rights and scientific thought is that before the Pope was a dogmatic old man waving his arms at shit, he was a liberator and the impetus of hope for a lot eastern european countries, esp. Poland. If you peel the religion aside and look at what he did and how he encouraged the people of Poland to fight for their faith during the cold war, you can admire him while still not agreeing with the policies of the church he represents. I mean, the church is doing no favors for Africa right now by preaching abstinence in the midst of an awful HIV epidemic... but you still have to admire people like the him for sticking it to an entity as powerful as the Soviet Union and encouraging the building of churches and centers of faith in a society that really didn't want its people worshiping anything. I'm a hardcore atheist/naturalist, but I think the Pope's death can serve a lesson to the
