The value of higher education

Many times, the pedigree only matters in other institutions that offer such a pedigree. More often than not, job postings at Yale will decribe the qualifications as "XYZ from an accredited insitution, or an equivalent combinaiton of education and experience" It's slowly changing that the latter half of that sentence actually means what it says.

In my department a friend was interviewed for a job for which she met all the requirements save a pedigree. She did make it past the initial gatekeepers but was never called for an interview, likely because of the lack of pedigree. Of course, I take perverse amusement in the knowledge that Pedigree Man to whom they offered the job declined for a better offer, and now they are faced with that same decision all over again. Here's hoping my friend will get a shot :-)

Lol, I forgot you were still moving through the system. Happy graduation!

Yeah, leaving college is a serious reality check for everyone. You get in this headspace of "I'm in college, I'm doing what I'm supposed to, and when I get out..." Somehow the solid "when I get out" plan doesn't seem important until the eleventh hour; it's easier to ignore it. Like death.

It really is about that first real job in the real world. I think your internship counts a lot for that. You'll do great.
