Wow... rulings all over the place

But I was humbled and amazed at the reaction of people who came to the State Capital to witness Sen. Wendy Davis of Fort Worth filibuster ( Read more... )

I watched the live stream - the public gallery were awesome! It's disgusting that the Republicans tried to pretend they held the vote in time when they clearly didn't, but at least the lieutenant governor was honest about it.

Unfortunately, the downside is Perry can (and probably will) call a special session that will cost the Texas taxpayers more money for it to happen. And I'm sure that if it does happen, they will find a way to make it a closed session.

Yeah, Dewhurst did kind of imply that they'll be back. But one thing this has done has shine a huge media spotlight into Texas that simply wasn't there before yesterday, when they were trying to pass legislation most people hadn't heard of. There's a chance the publicity might help.

True. One hopes it gets enough exposure that folks who may not agree with abortion will realize that closing down clinics in rural parts of Texas would hurt people who may not be able to afford a trip to a big city for health concerns.

But here comes Slick Rick:

I had no idea such a thing as "filibuster" existed in the US. Very interesting. The Senator was AMAZING!

I can't believe they're trying to pass such a horrible bill! :O And they had the audacity to call for a second session! How horrible!

I read that not one of the major news networks covered the last hours of the filibuster, so people had to watch on YouTube. Quite depressing, that the major networks wouldn't consider super important to cover all that was happening as it was happening! :(

The next day all the press joined the party. Nothing like being a day late. :)
