Another one bites the dust...

I know there was much press about Google Reader going away. Personally, I don't use RSS feeds all that much and I think I used Google Reader once or twice then forgot it existed. The following is probably one that really makes me go 'aww' and nostalgic.

Before Google or Bing, the best search engine out there back in the day, at least for me was

Alta Vista was my go-to browser for years before I started using Google instead.

Mine, too! I was an undergraduate at the time!

But for the last several years, Google is all I use.

Google is where I go as well.. I seldom us Bing, yahoo, or anyone else at this point.

I feel quite sad, not just nostalgically for these old tools we once loved, but because there's so little new coming up to challenge the biggies. It was a great time of variety, those pioneering years on the internet. I can't help think the gene pool of internets is getting a bit too restricted for its own good.

I hear you... I've been saying Google is trying to take over the world for years... and damn, if I wasn't right! :) But you are right innovation seems to have dried up though.
