I did like the way they managed to change things without ret-conning the whole of the new series. As far as 9 and 10 are concerned, it's all still the same. Clever writing.
Though it would have been extra awesome if Chris Ecclestone been willing to do it. John Hurt was good (obviously), but Nine in that role would have had extra resonance.
You know you don't see Ecclestone getting interviewed much about the Doctor. He was in the role so briefly it makes me wonder if he really enjoyed the role or if there was some type of conflict with producers. It certainly would have made for an interesting edge to it though.
John Hurt did get blessed with some good lines though. My favorite being "Was I going through some mid-life crisis?" When he saw what his future selves looked like.
Ecclestone was very cagey about his reasons for leaving at the time, but in 2011 he did say in an interview that he didn't get on with the people in charge of the show, and felt they were constantly pushing him to do things he didn't agree with character-wise. He clearly didn't enjoy the experience, so it's not surprising he said no in the end, though Moffat did talk with him seriously about it.
That was an awesome line XD And it's always good to see an older actor as the Doctor - I'm looking forward to Peter Capaldi.
Oh yeah, you guys got a mention during the weather forecast. So far we've lucked out. It's wet, it's cold but it's just above freezing so no ice or sleet yet. Of course on Thanksgiving it is slated to be almost 60 degrees. Gotta love the weather.
A two-weeks belated "Happy birthday!" from me! So sorry not to have logged in LJ earlier!
You're lucky not to have long winters in your state. :) I know hot summers aren't great either, but I find them preferable to freezing winters.
My family doesn't do the "exchanging presents at Xmas" thing, which I'm rather thankful for because it saves me the Xmas shopping headache. (obligatory shopping is always a headache for me!)
Hi, babaca. Been reading your GW web pages for YEARS; every December I hibernate and read fanfics until well into the New Year. (My new hobby is finding lost favorites with Wayback Machine.) Your site is still online! along with GWA and 1x2x1, missing parts but alive. :D So many are gone; those still online show "last posts" from 2009. Delurking to say hello on LJ seemed a good idea, especially after I saw you're a fellow Dr Who fan! (Required question: favorite Doctor?) Happy New Year!
