Testing out a low chemical diet

Jan 08, 2008 08:22

After my week long series of migraines over Christmas, several of which I know to be triggered by msg in foods I wasn't suspecting, I decided to give the Failsafe elimination diet a proper go and see what comes of it. I have been avoiding additives for a while now (no artificial colours, flavours, preservatives or msg) and have seen some success ( ( Read more... )

I did an exclusion diet a few years ago. It started off by excluding everything you eat regularly (eat more than twice a week) for two weeks (but no one new thing more than twice a week). And nothing processed, no sugar, caffeine etc. Not even any herbs, spices. Basically it was like starting from scratch ( ... )

From the sounds of it, you seem similar to myself, in that you also experience a sense of "slowness," that you attribute to potatoes and wheat. Based on my experience, I can say with some confidence it's likely not the potatoes nor wheat contributing to your dulled perceptions, but rather the intake of these foods combined with foods highly saturated with naturally-occurring chemicals that you may be sensitive to. It is not typical to experience such a sensation, but don't be fraught with worry if people seldom understand when you mention this to them; rather realize there is potentially a safe solution. You might really benefit from manipulating your diet to follow that of a low-chemical one, but I would encourage taking heed to meet your nutritional requirements, through consultation with a dietitian or doctor, regardless of the information you find online. Also, it's important also to keep in mind salicylates are found toothpastes, skin care products, etc.--basically they're found abound, but starting with your diet may be the ( ... )

This is the same person who wrote the last reply. I'm sorry I provided such erroneous information. If you are having those symptoms of a perceived slowness, which I was correct in saying I've also experienced many days of my life, you should probably talk with your doctor regarding the possibility of Celiac Disease. Please completely regard the last reply as null and void, a likely gateway into greater problems if you disregard your body's crucial need for essential vitamins ( ... )

As for the vertigo you described (http://babalon-93.livejournal.com/2008/04/29/), babalon, I experienced the same sensation for the last ten years of my life so maybe you'd also want to ask your doctor about Celiac Disease. Since implementing the most appropriate diet, which I did find online, upon CONFIRMATION of diagnosis (and only then), I have eliminated basically all my symptoms, save for a few, while my intestines heal. In case you wanted to know, the reason I've written this entry and the others is because I really feel for those who are seemingly suffering the same fate in the same unbeknownst shoes I was in for the majority of my existence. What's the point in my suffering if I can't help the next joe?

The slowness is very mild, and I don't think is indicative of anything more than a slight intolerance to those foods.
