Heya Pittsburghish friends! Um, which of you are still in Pittsburgh? Beccane and I are taking a break from the triple-digit temperatures of Texas in the 'burgh this week and would love to see lots of you! Post here or mail me, but let me know!
Heh. I avoid *prolonged insane* winter. I actually would prefer about 3-6 weeks of real snow with good chances of total blizzard conditions. That's about right.
This is a historic record hot summer in Austin, nearly 3 months of >100 temperatures - I'll certainly still take our normal month of such conditions over the normal winter tundra of New England, and even this abnormal Texas heat over typical New England winters. I never have to dig my car out of the sunlight.
Sunlight is a big thing for me: SAD makes me want to seek places where I don't have to spend a big chunk of the year being grouchy over getting a light fix.
All that said, the weather is one of the few big minuses of Austin - even though it still beats New England by miles.
I now understand the Austin summer weather, I think.
In years that there is significant tropical storm weather (eg, hurricanes) in the Guof of Mexico, Austin gets wet weather and lush greenery - very much like Florida, including the afternoon thunderstorms. Like when I was looking at this as a place to move to, then my first year here and now this year.
Other years, it's hot and arid. Like my second and third years here.
Now that I understand that, it works for me. Semi-predictable, so I will have a good sense of whether I want to skip town in a given summer or not,

Alas, Arisia isn't going to happen for us. Baitcon is uncertain.
