The Storm(ageddon) approaches

This is mostly a summary for friends who don't follow me on Facebook.  I'm still working out how to use LiveJournal in light of the blow-by-blow updates that Facebook facilitates.

I haven't posted publicly here in a while - in part because the one post I've been working on for months (about the Temple of Transition at Burning Man) hasn't yet come ( Read more... )

It's so sad losing dogs. I am much more of a dog person than a cat person (in spite of my several cats), so I understand the 'being a pack' thing.

Stormageddon looks like a giant cutie. Those ears could kill with adorableness.

Yeah. I'm a cat person too, but it's a different kind of relationship. And there's also the sure knowledge that a dog would kill or die for a pack member - they get teamwork and cooperation and fairness (at least, the smarter ones do. Don't get me started on dogs that have been reduced to only understanding submission and servility - humanity has a lot to answer for on that). Cats get "fellow traveler" and love and support and trust, but not so much willing submission to the relationship - I never get the level of mind-meld with cats that I get with a good dog.

Losing Deco was awful, but it was more as losing a dependent - I felt guilty that I wasn't there to ease her passing and that I'd never hold her again. Losing Bear was losing a trusted partner and brother, if a junior one. Our household is functionally weaker without him.

Anyway. I'm really excited to bring Stormy into our household and home, and to discover who he develops into. I can't wait.

Awww, good for you!!! And great for Stormageddon!!! But are you really going to expect him to come running when he hears that name? Not just 'Stormy'?

Thanks! We passed the interview today - I'm a little stressed out, I was ready for it to be tough but the guy looked at our paperwork and say, "I'm OK with this." And that was that.

But most likely he'll come to anything said in the right tone of voice. You're right - it'll most likely be "Stormy" most of the time, but in his head and heart he'll know!

Yay! That's awesome!

Also, thanks for posting this here, too; always happy to see the news.

No problem! Like I said, I'm trying to figure out how to bring LJ back into my on-line life, I like that the format encourages more in-depth (or at least longer) writing.

There are some other cultural things that happen to go along with LJ (in short: too much education, too little life experience), but they're mostly ignorable if I avoid the communities and just stick with my friends.

No Stormageddon for a week yet. It'll be a long week.
