Everything was blue. The lighting was blue, her skin was blue, her hair was blue. The chair she was strapped to was blue, as was her body suit and the needles stuck in her head ( Read more... )

Raven's violet eyes shot open at the sound of someone banging away at her door in the dead of night. Though the expression on her face remained emotionless, in her mind she was already planning exactly what she was going to say to whatever inconsiderate prankster she caught in the hallway for disturbing her slumber.

She threw the dark blue covers off from her body, and lumbered towards her chamber door. Opening it partway, such that no one would see her in nothing but her nightgown, she peered out into the hallway. "River?"

She slowly wiped the sleep from her still drowsy eyes as the world became more real to her. As she became more aware of the details, she saw that her friend was breathing quick and shallow breaths, her cheeks still red from recent tears and her body trembling where she stood. "Are you okay? What's wrong?"

"I..." Suddenly feeling very foolish, she took a step back. "I... I had a nightmare, and my mind is hurting and descending into chaos. I'm sorry for waking you, I can go see Simon, if you'd like," she stammered. "I just... I'm scared," she finished, her voice trembling, sounding dangerously close to bursting into tears.

"No...it's okay," Raven replied as she became fully awake at the sight of River's tears. She opened her door a little further, stepping forward in case her presence was comforting for the older girl. "There's nothing to be scared of," she quietly said. However, knowing full well how powerful nightmares and visions could be, she was aware of the futility of her own words.

"Simon's just going to stick more needles in you," she replied matter-of-factly before slowly trying to form her next sentence. "Do you...I don't know...maybe just need to...talk?"

River's eyes widened at the mention of needles. "No, no more needles!" she cried out.
Realizing that it was the middle of the night and that her peers were sleeping, she shook her head and attempted to quiet her voice. "No more needles. They were in my head and in my brain and in my eyes and piercing into my mind, opening it up, fire pouring into my head. Oh god, everything hurt," she babbled, this time actually breaking down into tears.
