Tea and dumplings

Raven sat alone on her bed, legs pulled close to her chest and arms wrapped around her knees. Late in the afternoon, she still wore her dull grey pajamas. With such a bleak future, it was hard to see any reason to get out of bed or do anything at all, as none of it would even matter ( ... )

River opened the door a crack at the voice and peeked in. "Raven? I've brought comfort that looks like food. Would you care to partake?"

Raven lifted her head up and glanced towards the door as River poked her head in. "I'm not really hungry," she quietly said, though she did not snap at the girl or shoo her away like she would have anyone else.

River pushed the door open wider and stepped in. "It's not for nourishment purposes," she said quietly. "It's to soothe. I took some tea from Inara. She used to be a Companion, you know. Her tea is superb at easing the mind and body."

She sat next to Raven, setting the tray to the side. She picked up a cup of tea and held it out to Raven. "Talking also relieves stress, and I have ears."
