Some things stay the same; most change. Yes, the tempted can be free of temptation; and yes, the taste of temptation doesn't change; only the person's memory of it changes, so, too, their desire of it changes. For the person to acquire the taste again, doesn't mean things go back to "what it was." The alcoholic, having been beyond help, manages to win over the temptation and gains a humungous sense of acheivement. Sinking again brings them deeper than they were before. Rising again is beyond beyond help. Doubts set in that seem impossible to remove. Even if they overcome again, doubts will be there. The interesting thing is that we could consider these doubts as something to overcome. Is this relevant?
