I mentioned in a recent post that I went to MediaWest con last year. It was fun, and I came away deciding I wanted to broaden my artistic horizons by contributing to fanzines, which is a medium heavily featured at this event

I'll make some inquiries, what are the areas you want to focus on? The shows you like, the genre, fan fiction illustration? One-offs? Working with one author?

It's a stodgy group sometimes, mostly because the people that are active ARE older, and have stuck with the process for literally decades. New people who ask questions are greatly needed but I think a lot of the big players don't want to educate, they just want to get their next zine out.

I'd suggest finding an author you'd like to work with, and ask them about getting involved. Might be a better path? I don't know too many writers who would turn down an illustration of what's in their head!

Well, I was looking to do one off illustrations. I contribute semi-regularly to a furry publication called "North American Fur", and I just submit random illustrations that get presented in my own little section. I've seen some old school zines that have done that in the past, but I have no idea how things work, and it's hard trying to find anyone who can tell me.

Ideally, my focus is Peter Venkman from Real Ghostbusters. But since I'm going at this somewhat blind, that may not be how things work. So, if I have to, I'll draw whoever people want me to. I got this.
