i'm finally going to change my name(hopefully). when i google it its all these "change yr name online fast and easy." is this all bullshit? my gut says yes. help? suggestions? anybody know what my first step is? i've heard that you have to go back to the city you were born in which would be horrible considering its dallas.

I think you do have to go back to the city hall which has your birth certificate on file, and request some form to change your name. Then it's like $100 or something.

according to the transgender something or other i go to room 802 of the daley center. i wish i knew what their definition of poor was. but i'll find out.

my experience was needing to contact my place of birth, without going there, to get a copy of my birth certificate. i had a little more money at the time, so i got a lawyer who filled out all the proper paperwork and submitted it for me. it was about $800 total. but file with the system, request to change name, with id of old name and new name. then i also had to run a thing in the paper for 2 weeks i think, declaring that i was changing my name. kinda ridiculous if you ask me... but i guess it's if you have any outstanding financial debt, this lets everyone know so they can come hound you for that moneys.
