Debate (and debate conversation) was never sexual while I was present (thank goodness). I don't want to know what the debaters did on their off time, however. Perhaps one of the reasons the team is dying is that things have become so prurient? When I was around, debaters used to talk excessively about Current Events, Politics, History, etc.
I've got a better idea for everyone than joining debate, anways: Don't join debate, but go to the tournaments and compete anyways! That's what I did. Went to state one year, and was involved for two, but I never joined the team, did fundraising, etc. It was great.
If you want to dress up in school, join ROTC, not debate. If you want to dress in suits on a regular basis, start going to Church.
a) I don't think you can go to the tournaments and not join the team anymore. b) suits>ROTC uniforms. Plus, you don't have to dress up in school... you just have to have dress clothes for the tournaments. You can wear normal clothes to school and change before the tournament. c) debate>church d) it's not that we DON'T talk about Current Events, Politics, History, etc...it's just that those are different conversations. Obviously, those topics come up a lot. But when we're just messing around, telling jokes, etc. it's very sexual. e) There's no e f) there's no f either g) take a guess
a) You couldn't then, either, but I did it. b) ROTC uniforms are cooler and more fun to have/be in. I speak from lots of experience with both. The part about wearing normal clothes also applies. c) Strongly disagree. d) Again, I was never around such conversations when I was among the debaters. We may have had more moral folks then. [insert comment about the declining standards of today's youth here] e) La disparition f) I'm not aware of that one. g) ...is for Gafni?
Gafni, the ROTC uniforms are pretty cool. Ladies love men in uniform (at least I hope so). I'm 3/3 (Church, ROTC and Debate).
But in all seriousness, take Gafni's advice, join debate. Maybe one day you can obtain skills comprable to Gafni and I. And you'll know exactly when this happens: you'll go 1-3 and lose to a guy named dunkel.
