He smokes in the hallways, because he's scared that he'll drop a butt and light his bed on fire. The idea of being engulfed in flames again so soon is just a little too much for Mello to handle.

So, he smokes in the hall. This is where he drinks, too.

[Matt resolved to let M alone after the wooden room, but such resolutions never mean much where Mello, any Mello, is concerned, so he accidentally-on-purpose wanders towards the vicinity of his room. Matt's smoking too, of course, and goes pink when he spots him and can't think of a good excuse for his own presence.]
