Roswell S3: to buy or not to buy?

Aug 08, 2006 12:28

My problems are pretty minor compared to others, but today I've got a big financial decision to make.

I love TV and I love DVDs, so TV shows on DVD are, IMO, the best merchandising concept in the last 20 years. But I like to have a show's complete series set (one exception: The X-Files), which brings me to this dilemma ( Read more... )

I KNOW!! The dvd sets coming out are just crazy; so many, so close together.

And, for some reason, they are oddly more expensive than usual. Is it the same way in the US? Wenty was $50 here, but that was a special for today, it was tagged at $59. What the heck?

Did you pick yours up yet? I am surprised they decided to go with the little plastic cases, especially considering what they are charging...

Our lists look very similar. Except, I can wait for Grey's and GG, especially since they never have good features (GG that is), and there was all that Lorelai/Rory angst at the beginning of the season. DH is not on my list at all actually, so that helps some too.

I can wait on GA & GG, too, unless they're really cheap when they come out. Plus, there's all those Meredith scenes. I want DH mainly because I worked on it, though my captions won't be on there :(

My sis called, so I got sidetracked & haven't bought Wenty yet. PB's on sale here for $38 at Best Buy, so why is it so expensive up there? It can't be the exchange rate. And nice job they did with the "sale" price! So, the set is kind of cheap-looking? I heard he doesn't do a commentary, but there's 6 total so it's worth the money.

Costco has my absolute must-haves -- VM, SPN and SV -- listed at $39, which are good deals. Sometimes they'll go nuts & have coupons for TV on DVD sets, so they're $20-25. But it's usually at Christmas, and I can't wait that long!

$38 is a much nicer price. The set doesn't really look cheap, I was just shocked at the choice of design - those plastic cases seem to be the way everyone is going. I just love a nice box set, that is well, actually a box.

Yup, you heard right, he doesn't do any commentary. I was prepared for that, so at least it wasn't a shock. Our girlfriend does a couple though, so that helps. Robert Knepper too. Whee!

Ew. I really like the cardboardy box sets, like the Buffy and Angel sets. Opening them is like unwrapping a gift, and the art is so pretty and shiny. At least FOX does one thing right by their shows!

We need to figure out a way for you guys to get our cheaper prices. Any chance work would send you to the States once a week for the next two months? ;)

Yay! I'm pleased with any cast members doing commentary, even Bellick. I can't wait to hear Robert's take on T-Bag & the severed hand. God, I need to find Wenty icons before S2 starts.

BTW, am I the only one who didn't know Paris from GG is engaged to Kellerman from PB?

IT'S CHURNING BUTTER IN MY PANTS!

Okay, you and Fenny seriously need to come here for SlumberPartyCon. We won't have to crowd around a laptop, either!

OMG, I know! But work totally pwns me for the next few months. Unless I can figure out & afford a quickie trip... Can you imagine me with my big bags of DVDs going through Customs? ;)

I second that motion. Please?

Even if we plan for October or early November...whatever you can do, of course. :D

November's out of the question. (I'll explain later in e-mail.) And now I'll have to get a passport ASAP, especially after today's big terrorist bust. A quick, reasonably priced trip is possible, but a longer trip might have to until right after Christmas :(

Apropos of nothing in your post, I sent you an email--er, well, two because I hit 'send' on the first instead of 'attach'--with photos for your approval.

And I can't believe Oz is finally going to be released! I NEED MY MAN FIX!

OMG, is that LT in your icon?! Did he borrow that shirt from his old lady, Cher?

Heh, I got both e-mails, but I can't open them at work. I'll have to inspect them at home. But what's this about me being threatening next to a man's crotch at Woody's? I totally don't remember that.

Dude, I think Oz S6 was supposed to come out last September. I hope Fontana added some mansex scenes & took out all naked shots of Hoyt & Vern.

It's from the superhero episode of Oz. I was looking for Adebisi in his costume, but no luck. ::is sad:: I had to settle for LT.

And I don't think you intended to look threatening, but you are making a fist. It's cute, really. But I did somethign weird with my flash so you kind of just pop out of the darkness with your fist and a bit of your face, and really it leaves you mostly a mystery, which is why I kinda love the photo.

Also, Hoyt has a really big schlong, like, biggest of all the Oz men, and although I don't want any of them near me, I kinda have a fascination with the Naked Biker. They can edit out Vern, though.

please edit out Vern! badtyler August 9 2006, 03:31:55 UTC
Thought of naked Vern/Emil Skoda before I go to bed?

The lambs are screaming now.

'Grey's Anatomy'? Oooh, a treat.
I need that right about now.
I still haven't gotten 'Nip/Tuck' S2... gotta get that.
Even though I have it memorised.

Just the term 'Rumspringa' makes me laugh. I was trying to explain what it is to someone and had a brainfart. I kept calling it 'Beerfunka'...

I'm so far behind on nip/tuck, though I know the outcome of last season. Shit, there was no way to escape it! At least Yahoo didn't put it on the front page, like they did with Six Feet Under's big plot point.

Hee! Well, rum, beer, they're both types of alcohol! I'm fascinated by Rumspringa, and I'm pissed that UPN didn't do another season of Amish in the City.

Last season Ryan Murphy was going for 'dark' but the damn Carver thing fuqued up everything. From what I've read, he's going back to family-related issues, along with the usual gamut of weird plastic surgery procedures.

It was so obvious who the Carver was... some of the TWoP spec. had me laughing my head off.
"It's Liz... because she's not pretty!"
"It's the detective on the case, because no one would suspect!"
"No, it's the 'Fight Club' split personality thing- Sean carved himself and then Christian!"
I don't think I've ever said 'STFU' so much while reading anything on TWoP.

The one thing I love is the way PJ Bloom uses music; sometimes it's very elegiac and sometimes, it's really funny. *g*

I love how Ryan Murphy introduced what's his name, new!doctor, made him seem shady, and named the season finale after him. Shit, like no one would figure that out?! Then again, the TWoPers thought Murphy would go for something impressive instead of obvious ;)

My other favorite obvious "twist": Matt -- dun dun dun! -- may not be Sean's kid! Then again, I figured Kimber lied to Christian about his baby, but that plotline was actually touching.

Did you watch Murphy's other show, Popular? The first season was good if uneven, but the second season sucked. And I'm not buying his "but the WB made me do it!" claims.

I haven't seen most of Roswell season 2 and none of season 3, though I've heard that S3 is really bad. I know Alex dies, but they do get rid of Tess, right? That alone might make me buy S3 :)

See, I don't whether to call them "badfics" or not, since some have correct grammar & spelling. (I'm the type who'll copy/paste into Word & run spellcheck before I read them.) I love "Devil's Playground." It's probably the first I read without skimming to the sex. And the pic on the front page is hilarious!

I've read a lot of high school fic, but I never remember the titles because they're basically all the same fic ;) Is "Medium Security" finished? I stopped reading when gaedhal went on & on with flashbacks. And why isn't there a QaF-Oz crossover?

I love wheelchair!Brian! Isn't there one where Brian's paralyzed, Justin's blind, and they're IM buddies?

Did Thyme also write the B/J as models fic?
