Sometime past two in the morning with a schedule starting at nine tomorrow, Yoochun is still awake; still trying to shake off Seoul city dust from the soles of his shoes, tongue clicking impatient when he mouths new words and trips stumbling, s-s-stuttering over them.
“Yoochun-ah.”
Junsu is lying on his side in the next bed, shadows uneven on his face when he shifts in the unsteady shine of Tokyo lovelights, skylines reaching for night clouds. Watching with a semi sleepy, fully amused smile that Yoochun wants to kiss the edges of.
“Sorry, was I that loud?”
There’s a mumbled, noncommittal sounding mmm from Junsu’s side of the room and Yoochun turns, head propped up on one hand to face him now, the inexplicable familiar feeling of wanting to laugh threatening to bubble up from the warmest rooms of his heart as their eyes meet and Junsu does laugh, muffled under hotel bed sheets.
“Bed room eyes,” he whispers and Yoochun faux preens in the dark, says I love you baby in his sleaziest, most bedroom voice possible. Junsu throws something soft at his head, Yoochun yelping as it bounces off tousled bed hair and onto the floor, landing with a protesting squeak. There’s a vaguely fishlike shadow on the carpet, shadow a shade darker than the rest, one beady eye staring at him accusingly in the light of neighboring buildings that try to peer into the room.
“You did not just throw Flipper at me.”
“And if I did?”
“There’ll be a Cassiopeian uprising. Pitchforks, Junsu, can you see the angry fans on the horizon?”
Junsu squints and makes a thoughtful sounding noise, pondering.
“Then you’ll just have to grab me and run.”
The unmistakable sound of laughter smothered under starched sheets again and Yoochun can’t really be bothered to get up from bed and go soft-toy hunting in the dark, the medium sized dolphin plush a fan gift that Junsu had instantly pounced on and claimed as his. (“A friend for Bambi?” Yunho had prodded the dolphin almost cautiously, as if worried his status as the only dongbang with a stuffed animal toy would be overthrown)
“Flipper is going to cry under his skin if you don’t go pick him up.”
“Your fan café is going to use yours as wall decorations if they find out you’ve been abusing him.”
“…that’s more than slightly disgusting.”
“Then my work here is done.”
“Pick up my damn dolphin, Park Yoochun.”
“No~” comes the reply in accented English and there is a huff, bed sheets ruffling, Junsu probably burrowing deeper into his pillow. Someone’s wristwatch on the hotel table beeps an hour passing, minutes continuing to flutter by and it’s 3am gone just like that, Yoochun still laying on his side watching Junsu try to sleep.
“Creeper,” Junsu says in his general direction, impending sleep starting to make him slur his words a little and 3.04am, Junsu is asking for Flipper please Yoochun-ah.
“Why do you even need to sleep with a teddy bear?”
“Something soft to cuddle. And it’s a dolphin, dolphin you uneducated man.”
“Cuddle me instead,” Yoochun blurts in a Jaejoong-esque moment of 3am incoherency and it takes Junsu a while to register this, slow
smile spreading on his face before he untangles himself from the warmth of solitary beds, making his way into Yoochun’s arms. Yoochun is easy to mould his body around, familiar, welcoming. Like snuggling into a favorite blanket that kisses you back, strokes your hair. Says cheesy things like I love you, baby in bedroom voices.
“Yoochun - 1, Flipper - 0.”
Junsu nuzzles into Yoochun’s neck, mumbling something almost unintelligible about how what a sad night it was, for comparisons having to be made between stuffed animals and human teddy bears.
“Prefer this one, for the record.”
“Ah…”
Exhale. Breathe in. Junsu still has the scent of airport arrival halls, hotel soap (lemongrass this time) clinging to him and Yoochun breathes deep, thinks of the things that remind him of warm summery places, places that take him beyond bland hotel rooms and busy cities like the beach, emerald blue waves under cornfield skies or empty fields with long grass to nap in or
“Goodnight, Yoochun-ah.”
Or Junsu.
