subject lines are short and informative

I don't get why so many people don't understand the concept of two lines. Two lines express two ideas. Brevity is key. If you want a subject line, it can only be 7 words or less.

Examples - Good:

2_lines is a thriving community.
Many people have found a niche here.As you can see, this is an appropriate 2_lines entry because it fits all the rules ( Read more... )

i didn't understand that there MUST be punctuation at the end of each line and i reread the rules all the time. maybe you could spell that out more clearly. i did edit one of my entries that i knew broke that rule.

i will say that the new layout forces lines to be shorter than they had to be in the past, even on the comment page.

Well, if you re-read the rules all the time, you'd read the following, which clearly states how the lines should be and that they need punctuation. As for the new layout, that's why I chose it. The lines were getting too long with too many ideas.

1. You are allowed two lines per entry. No more, no less. TWO lines is TWO FULL SHORT sentences with TWO end punctuations (THAT DOES NOT MEAN FOUR SHORT SENTENCES ON TWO LINES) and a line break after each sentence. A line break is your best friend. USE IT! Brevity is best (aim to only fill view page), but it can not be longer then 2 lines on the comment page.

i meant that i didn't understand that the punctuation HAS to be on the end of the line. thanks for clarifying.

Being forced into using punctuation takes away the beauty of the poetry some people post in this community. By name, the community is 2_lines. That does not necessarily imply they must be sentences, and to enforce such a rule removes the beauty of the concept from a lot of posts.

I definitely agree. I know that I rarely use puncuation with my posts here, and I'm not the only one. Sometimes they just work better without.

I think that's part of the beauty of the 2_lines format. Once you know the rule, you have to structure your thought around that rule. I didn't realize at first that punctuation had to be there (by the way, do ellipses count?), but once I did I made sure to alter my original entry if it broke the rule, and sometimes I had to be creative with it in order to make it fit the format. Isn't that the whole philosophy behind 2_lines?

Dear Babybeaver,

I am writing to ask the question that I asked on 2_lines that was not given answer. Why was my post deleted when I had fixed the subject line? I have been a loyal member of your community and meant no disrespect. I can understand you have to keep the rules strong, but may I ask why you do not give a day's worth of time to those who broke the rules without knowing? I joined the community in order to express myself, like everyone else there, and have had at least one post deleted that I already had comments on - comments I can now not reply to. I am sorry if my post to you on the community offended you, but I was wondering why I was not allowed to fix my post and, knowing your journal is friends-only, was not sure how to contact you. I have defended 2_lines (when it was considered only for teen girls to talk about how great their boyfriend is) and promoted the community. I did not intend to break any rule. All I need is a warning and I will gladly fix any post that breaks the rules. I am sorry if you have had problems with ( ... )

I'm sorry but I usually leave a comment stating what rule you broke and then I delete right away. I have nothing against you or anyone else. If I would quit being such a softie, I'm actually suppose to be banning people from now on since I have made numerous posts about the rules and people keep breaking them/ignoring them, sometimes repeated offenders. Your post didn't offend me and I only deleted it because you already had your day's limit; again I'm sorry ( ... )

Thank you very much for the reply. I am sorry to hear that you have had so many problems with repeat offender posters. I really thought that most of the regulars, if not all, would have glady respected the rules, especially when you consider how much many of us have enjoyed and gained from that community. Thank you again for replying to me, and I really hope you are able to get the community under control.
