Friday we drove up to Tallahassee to play a house party with our good friends Look Mexico and Fake Problems and a bunch of other bands. We drive for 7 hours, all the while getting sporadic phone calls from friends who are at the party telling us how awesome it is and asking when we're going to get there. About five minutes away from the house, we get the dreaded phone call, the party's been broken up, the cops are here chasing everyone away phone call. We get the coordinates to meet FP somewhere a few blocks away from the house where they're hiding out at a friends apartment, and shortly after getting there, we get a call that the party's being relocated and to return to the scene of the original party to find out the scoop. The site of the original party was still littered with wandering and sleeping drunk people, half full cups of green beer everywhere, and general chaos. After a long interlude of confusion, we head over to the new party, which is already in full swing when we get there, packed to the brim inside and out with half-lidded crazies. We're told to set up in a corner of the living room that's already crammed with bodies. Somehow we manage to get some sort of setup going and proceed to play the sloppiest, craziest set ever. No one seemed to mind, our buddies made us feel so good by singing along and getting the people pumped up. Everyone was goin nuts, singing and dancing. Poor Arik had to stand up/jump around the entire set because his seat kept falling over. Tom got picked up into the air and crowd surfed while still playing mind-melting guitar licks the whole time! It was amazing...ly hilarious. Our buddy Sebastian had only one contact in and was half-drunk with half-vision, that was pretty hilarious too.
That night we slept in a fold out couch at the original party house with about 20 people in sleeping bags scattered around the house.
Woke up, hung out, Pizza Buffett, listened to Look Mexico practice with their new guitarist while we chilled in their nice yard in the nice weather, met a bunch of people, went to Sebastians house, hung out, played games, went to eat, Arik and Sebastian jumped in a freezing pool, then jumped out, sat by the pool and chillaxed, went to the OAF house, watched Sebastian play a set (you may know him as On The Strings Of, he's awesome), then we played a fun acoustic set. we got to hang with Nick and Seabass and Suzie and the Look Mexico guys some more. Drove to Gainesville that night, stayed with one of Ariks friends in a really neat house, humongoid dogs were trying to knock the door over while whining all night long. Got up, got lost twice on the way to Stuart because we were all tired and not paying attention as much as we should have been, got to Stuart 2 hours late.
Stuart was insanely fun; FP and LM were all dancing and singing and playing tambourines during our set, that set the precedent for their sets during which the rest of us sang and danced and played tambourines. Fake Problems were awesome, they had a lot of energy and some new songs, Look Mexico were awesome, so tight and beautiful and also lots of energy. We got to hear a sample of their new CD, sounds soooo good, so much better than their old recordings, it really does them justice. We showed them and FP a sample of our new CD, they said they liked it a lot and got us real pumped up about it. I tell you what, Fake Problems and Look Mexico are good buddies to us and very good bands, they really are. So anyway, after some Taco Bell action, we all headed home for a real good nights sleep!
This week (starting today) is Spring Break for us!! We are going to practice the new songs everyday and work with Dan on mixing the new record (out May 4th).!! Thanks to everyone who made this weekend a nutty experience. :) See you all soon.
