Diamonds are a girl's best friend

A few months ago I was talking to my mum about getting her jeweller to source some 0.5 carat diamonds for me to be made into studs earrings coz my current ones are rather small. Instead she said she had a pair (I think around 0.75 carat?) in the safe deposit box which she doesn't really wear and so I could have them instead. Score!

Nice!!! Were they expensive, if you don't mind me asking? I wanted a pair of 0.5carat ear studs too, but when I asked around the price was quite high.

Actually I'm not too sure coz I didn't ask. Also I think these are a bit bigger than 0.5, maybe around 0.65-0.7? But last year when I checked with my mum's jeweller she mentioned it would be around $6000 for a pair of 0.5 carat diamonds (without settings), non-branded ones of coz. How much did you get quoted?

Yeah diamond studs are great for everyday wear. I have 2 more pairs, one round cut and one princess cut but they're much smaller. :p

Heh! My sister and I are now both claiming dibs on all my mum's jewellery! She's giving me a 3 carat solitaire ring as well but I think I'll probably get it reset into a necklace coz I don't really like wearing big rings.

haha aren't we daughters so lucky?! My mum gave me a pair of some 1/2 carat diamond earrings too but their gold plated! And I don't really like wearing gold... hmmmm... Your ones are beautiful :D

Get them reset into white gold? It shouldn't cost much for just plain studs. Or you can also just get them plated with rhodium which is cheaper but you'll probably need to re-plate them every 1-2 years.

yeah I guess white gold is nice... thats a good idea, the diamonds have been in the family for a while, and my mum replated them with gold recently, so if I went to change them she might get offended LOL I'll just wait for a wee while until I change them into white gold :P
