England Trip: Part 1

Jun 26, 2009 17:50

I'll try to keep this short but I was gone three weeks and didn't post anything on here about it. Ack!

Left on a Saturday. Took British Airways this time. Wanted to compare BA to Virgin Atlantic. I think I like Virgin Atlantic a little better.

But before that, the flight was delayed 45 minutes. Why? Angry French man who decided to argue with the steward because he was upset that he was not seated next to his wife. He was with a tour so his tour guide tried to go behind the steward and get them seated together. He asked me if anyone was seating next to me and I said that there was suppose to be someone but they hadn't shown up. He didn't ask me about the aisle seat though. The guy who was sitting next to me showed up and the tour guide asked him and he agreed to move. The couple moved next to me but no one asked the guy in the aisle. After several visits with various stewards and the captain and being threatened to be arrested, the French man and his wife were kicked off the flight. He just wouldn't calm down and I was thankful. Flight was fine after that. Captain made up the time so we landed almost on time.

Sunday

Customs wasn't horrible. Agent just wanted to make sure I was going home (yes) since I said I was visiting my fiancé. Rush out and found madclarinet quite quickly. As you can guess, it was nice to see him. Terminal 5 at Heathrow is nice but I will admit that both times I wasn't paying a ton of attention to it. Its impressive but I'm biased towards SFO's International terminal. :P

Drive back to MC's house was uneventful except that I wasn't wearing the right clothes. England decided to be muggy and warm/hot for England so the ride home was a little sweaty. Not MC's faults but his car doesn't have AC. He normally doesn't need it. Got home. Not sure what we did that day. Probably not much.

Monday

Slept till 3. Probably did some food shopping. Still recovering from flight.

Tuesday

Was taken to Chesterfield to see the crooked spire on one of the churches there. Walked around town a little. Then went into Derby to see the area and bridge around the Silk Mill that was being built the last time I had visited. Still a bit of a slow day.

Wednesday.

Was taken around MC's work. Got to meet co-workers and laugh at the "Your First Aider is" sign that listed his name. Met up with a group of them at a pub for what MC and I thought was lunch but ended up being a drink. Talked a bit and then they all had to go back to work. MC and I stayed to finally eat lunch. Had my first hamburger in a long time. I usually don't eat them because they end up being too greasy for me but this burger was perfect. Yes, it was dry and totally cooked but, to be honest, that's why I can eat a McDonald's hamburger without issue. Think after that we walked around the nearby shopping center. My eyes had been bothering me and I had noticed that the Boots in Chesterfield carried the eye drops I buy here. They had been out of them so we checked the Boots by MC's work. No luck. Not sure what we did the rest of that day.

Much more to come.
