Had a fight with my neighbor....
I live in the country, on e2-1/2 acres, Our neighbors' homes are mostly manicured lawns, while ours is a hobby farm, definitely a fixer-upper that we bought late last year.

I was gone most of yesterday, and when I came home, my friend who was working on restoring his truck (it is in ( Read more... )

My experience has been that parents who are the most defensive about their kids (indefensible) behavior are the ones quickest to get in your face about it. It's easier for them to be angry at you than to admit that their kids were doing something uncool, against the rules, and possibly illegal. We used to get hassled about our dog barking and our unmowed lawn by the crackhead and drug dealer next door more than by anyone else.

oh, believe me I'm all behind you on the "crappiest" house on the block and the escapee dogs, and the ...

A lock on the chicken coop might be a next step.

For us, the former owner had such a bad rep with the neighborhood, practically anything we do is seen as an improvement.

Hang in there!

Yeah, what viking_food_guy said. It sounds to me like they are not used to dealing with adults, just kids, and so have no idea how to respond to adult behavior.

You're better off having your kids play elsewhere.

So sorry to hear of the difficulties, neighbor troubles suck! I second the suggestion to lock the chicken coop, and maybe the barn too...you don't want to be responsible if their kids get hurt on your property, and if buildings are locked that would help. (We had some awful neighbors once when I was in school, they would burn their garbage in the fireplace, fumigating the neighborhood with odors and TOXIC incinerated plastic fumes, and during the winter they would send their children over to our place to steal our firewood. We seriously considered electric fencing, but ended up moving the car out of the garage and filling the locked garage with our firewood!)
