But this time he comes across another person, recognizing the hair and build as Dante... and he appears to be in conversation with something unknown.
"What exactly are you talking to, mate? Is the tree suddenly sentient?"

In conclusion, Dante jerked his head back at Fred and gave the guy the mandatory accusatory glare; before shrugging it off and side-eyeing the tree.
"Dude, I hope not. Got enough o' creepy forest out there don't we?" Though he wouldn't be surprised if it was sentient. Damn trees. "...And I was talking to my mum." He adds while turning around--the old picture frame in his hand now plainly visible.

Then he shrugs, tilting his head at the tree. A sentient tree would be reminiscent of home, and given everything else in these woods, he was a bit surprised that he hadn't found one yet. "Creepy things, sure, but none of the trees are of the intelligent sort. Could make things interesting."
But he peers at the picture, expecting it to be waving or something, only to see the woman is pretty stationary. "Well that was anti-climatic. She's not even moving."

Anti-climatic?
The look Dante gives Fred then and there suggests he takes great offence at his family being associated in any way with 'anti-climatic'. His family was anything BUT anti-climatic, thankyouverymuchyoujerk. Especially his mum who even under the most dreary circumstances was the best person ever. Total rude insult, dude.
"It's a photo, dude. They usually don't." A pause, he remembers the crazy circumstances and adds "... Where I come from."
