I'm no ordinary princess...

Prentiss is sitting crosslegged on the ground near her cabin, watching something under her porch. There's a small orange tabby cat staring back at her wide-eyed, crouched just out of reach. She has her suspicions as to where (and who) it came from, but it's only a cat. Even here in the Wood, she seriously doubts it's dangerous, and coaxing a ( Read more... )

Murphy stops and bends sideways to see what exactly Prentiss is looking at, and then walks over to stand just behind her. "Did you try offering it food? ...Not that it's likely starving, given where it probably came from, but even well-fed cats like to eat."

"No, actually." She glances briefly up at Murphy, and smiles a little. "I figured it probably wouldn't be that hungry, considering who it belongs to. Not much chance it's just feral, around here..."

"Not much," Murphy agrees. She crouches and holds out a hand toward the animal. It hisses.

Murphy's jaw gives a tiny little twitch. Harry really wasn't kidding when he said Tempest didn't like her. Apparently it translates to her proxies.

Emily blinks a little in surprise when the cat hisses. It's been acting shy and disinclined to come out, but not scared or aggressive, and Emily's been sitting here holding out a hand just like Murphy.

"What was that for?" she asks - half to the cat, though she doesn't expect it to answer, and half to Murphy.

Kat sees the woman go into the room between the armored guys, clearly just poking around, and stops to wait and see if the blonde comes out again.

After a few minutes of nothing, Kat ventures slowly forward, stopping at the door to peer inside.

Her jaw doesn't quite drop. But she definitely forgets about Olivia, instead going to brush her fingers against a massive blue stone glittering in the wall. "Holy fuck."

"My thoughts exactly," Olivia murmurs, glancing over to the girl as she speaks. She tenses a little when she sees Kat actually reaching out to touch one of the stones - Olivia has her arms folded across her chest, hands tucked away, and she's not terribly inclined to see what might happen if she does touch anything.

But it's too late to stop Kat, and nothing terrible seems to happen when she does, so Olivia relaxes a little after a moment. Not much, but a little.

Kat glances over at Olivia before running her hand along the seam where the stone meets the wall. She can't help it. Money is money, and this thing has to be worth a shitton of it. "I guess you haven't been in here before either, huh."

She pauses, squinting at the stone. There's something like a bug stuck in the middle of it. "How do these ones, like. Get made, anyway?"

"No, I haven't. I'm not even sure where we are in relation to the guest rooms..."

She walks over to the wall to study a couple of the stones herself. Something about this whole room unnerves her - it's pretty, in a way, and the stones look like they can't be anything but decorative... so why is this room so out of the way, and completely bare of anything but the stones on the walls? Why the suits of armor outside this door, and on none of the others down this hall?

She glances over her shoulder at Kat's question, frowning a little. "Get made?"

Danny stops and watches in confusion as the woman reaches under the porch.

"What are you doing?"

Emily glances up long enough to see who it is, and then smiles a little and shrugs, one eye still on the cat in case it moves.

"There's a cat under there. I just thought I'd see if it would come out..." And if it talks. Some of the castle cats were more talkative than others, and this one's shy enough that she doubts it'll tell her anything helpful even if it can talk, but there's no harm in trying.

Danny feels a little confused. A cat? Wouldn't something like that get eaten by the all the animals in the forest?

"What is a cat doing here?"

"I don't know. Maybe it's just lost. Or maybe it's spying on us, though it's probably pretty bored if it is." The cat twitches visibly at that comment. Emily smiles a little to herself, and then looks back at the boy and explains, "There's a princess in this castle out in the woods who has a bunch of talking cats. I'm assuming this one belongs to her."
