Kate had decided to keep her mind off the fact that her only real friend in the Wood had been - taken - somewhere, apparently against his will. She'd asked around, looking for Reid, and in the end decided he had to have been with the group of missing ( ... )

Castle stopped short at the sound of the woman's voice. He would have known it anywhere. He turned to find Kate standing about 10 feet from him, with no signs of injury. She was ok and she was here.

"Beckett?"

He ran to her and threw his arms around her, clasping her tightly to his chest.

"Oh my God, you're alright."

Kate would never admit, to herself or anyone else, how good it felt to hug Castle. Her arms went around him automatically, and it was a moment before she registered what he'd said. Reluctantly, she pulled back, tucking her hair behind her ear.

"I'm alright. Have you missed me, Castle?"

Castle's hands were still on her arms, even after she pulled away from him. It was almost as though he were afraid that if he let her go, she might disappear again.

"Of course. How long has it been?"
