Mini-update...

After seeing how cool the video monitor was at Nick and Rachel's, we finally sprung for one ourselves. It's not really the same since it didn't come with a cool hand-held video-display "remote." But the receiver plugs into the TV so we can watch Ryan on the big screen. Chris activated the picture-in-picture mode on the TV so we can watch our shows ( Read more... )

I'd wouldn't be comfortable to leave him in the situation where it's one worker to 8-9 babies and other kids too. The state of Georgia calls for no more than 5 babies per worker in any child care setting.

I'm not really sure about the ages of the children (and I don't know if that matters or not when it comes to teacher:student ratio) but I think they're from 10 months to 4 years. So she has to juggle taking kids to the potty while she carries around infants. She volunteers the childcare to us for free (and he's only in with her for a little over an hour) but I haven't ever felt comfortable about it. I'd rather pay for him to have better care with someone else.

Yeah. in QLD, Australia, it's one to 4 babies, and one to 5 (if all are over 15mths)... and sometimes slightly higher if there is only one or two under 3years old. I would check that out. Either way, that's GREAT Ryan is dealing with settling in, i understand as a childcare worker though, that sometimes kids attach themselves to some and not others, so don't be put off that he isn't liking it with some carers and not others, or some places and not others. Hey we don't like everyone we meet either right? He'll be fine I'm sure and is adjusting well it seems :) Sometimes it takes time with certain people to adjust to others, I know there are kids that come, and pitch fits until they can't see their parents, hop down run off and play, but he obviously doesn't do that. He will adjust, they all do, just takes time and patience, and persistence on both parent and carers part.

Aww... poor Ryan. Is the child care actually through church or is it just a volunteer that they've found? Like, I'm assuming it's not through Terri because I think she'd be more strict about it.
What time is the meeting? I'd be more than willing to watch him while you're there, but I think it'll interfere with my field experience.

I was just wondering...how much (if you don't mind me asking) does it cost for the gymboree membership? I don't know where anything like that is around here, but I was just wondering what it might cost...
