To Moby Or Not To Moby?

Based on the principle that the ideal number of carriers to own is n+1, where n=the number of carriers you currently own ( Read more... )

I'd get the adorable Moby. In my experience, nothing really matches a stretchy wrap during the newborn stage. And like you said, you can sell it down the road and get most of your money back. Plus, the owl design may be a limited print or something, so it might not be available everywhere once you decide to sell and you may be able to sell it for more than you would, say, a solid/common Moby.

If you already know you like the Moby, you're aware of it's limited longevity, and you can afford it.... do it.

We LOVE the Moby here. My husband and I both struggle getting a good wrap with a newborn in any other wrap, woven, lightweight, gauze, nothing works as well for us as the Moby. We've tried several things, and other styles of carrier, and always come back to the Moby for newborn to around 6 months.

That's good to hear! It's also easier to demonstrate to other mums who are interested in babywearing. Trying to tie a woven onto someone who doesn't know what they are doing is just...ugh!

do it! It can't hurt to have it around and it is so mainstream that I really like the idea of spreading the babywearing love to other mamas. The moby is like the gateway drug of babywearing. Personally, I hated stretchy wraps. The only carrier I plan to use for the LO due any day now is my gira conversion RS.

Gateway drug - nice! So true!

How do you find your RS? I've considered them before but never had a chance to try one properly. Are they particularly easy for up-and-down toddlers as people seem to suggest?

I love love love my ring sling (mine are custom made). I have an addiction to them. Everything else takes to long to put a baby in and with a toddler running around, it's ideal to be able to pop a kid in and out of one. :)

I tried to use our moby after having my daughter since I loved it so much with my first. I forced myself to wear it a couple times, but actually preferred the wovens early on. With my 3rd kid, I didn't even try him in the Moby. I have a soft, snugly older girasol that I used with all 3 kids, plus some other newborn friendly woven wraps.

But if you think you'd use it more, go for it. I'm a sucker for all things owls too. :)

That's one of the things I need to consider. There seem to be two camps - those who think nothing beats a stretchy for a newborn, and those who find them horrible once they've moved on to more supportive wraps. Thanks! :)
