Any ideas on napping away from home....

My daughter is 8 months old now, and we've been really successful in getting her to fall asleep on her own without props. She rarely cries longer than 15 minutes when we lay her down, and normally is asleep in less than 10 minutes ( Read more... )

If you're going to be at a party during naptime, wouldn't it be better to send the baby (and a travel-cot) to a babysitter?

A lot of the parties and stuff have been family and close friend occasions, especially with out-of-towners, that want to see the baby. They would be horrified if I left her home! =) It's been a busy month with my sister-in-law, cousin, brother all graduating high school, and over the next few months several dear people who moved away are either coming for a back visit or moving home. We've been very busy!

I see... I never let anyone see my baby during naptime or after he's gone to bed, and if they're disappointed, tough. If they want to see my baby they can visit me during the day while he is awake. I've probably pissed off a few people by putting my baby's needs before theirs, but hey, that's my job!

Wish I could help but I've never had much luck rocking my baby to sleep, he just gets upset if I don't put him in his cot when he's tired. I have to take a travel-cot everywhere.

Yeah, I can already tell she can handle missing a nap or staying up late better as she gets older. They grow so fast it's hard to keep up. =)

I was just going to back to look at old posts that I had missed and I just wanted to chime in to say I feel your pain! I live in Alaska and after I had my first baby, I traveled home to Washington every 3 months or so to visit family and friends. I discovered fairly quickly that my son was not going to sleep in my arms on the airplane. Because of my constant traveling I decided to cuddle him to sleep at home every so often just to he would be used to it. I guess I could say it worked for the most part but I noticed that he would wake up early from those naps. But he will sleep in my arms on the plane now, if only for a short bit.
