When to drop down to one nap?

Dec 16, 2005 20:00

My girl just turned 14 months, and even though I've heard from a couple places to stick to two naps until she's 18 months, I think I need to go down to one ASAP simply because she won't sleep during the first nap (11:00) anymore; she just plays in her crib. She may fall asleep after an hour, but sometimes I go get her at 1:00 and she hasn't slept ( Read more... )

I'm definitely no babywise expert, but after fighting(not really fighting, but you know what I mean..) with Hannah for WEEKS(6-7) to get her to sleep through the night again, we stretched her morning, so instead of going down for a nap at 11:30am, she gets lunch at 12(so only an extra half hour..) then I give her about 15minutes playtime after, and she's in bed by 1pm everyday.

The first 2 days she slept her normal 1.5hours, but now, somedays, she pushes 3, and is sleeping through the night again.. :)

That's pretty much what happened with Thomas at around 13-14 months. He started fighting sleep for weeks on end, and then one day I stopped trying to put him down for his morning nap and just gave him lunch a bit earlier, and he had a 2-hour nap in the afternoon and was fine. We've been following the same routine ever since, and he's 18 months old now and it's still working just fine.

Yesterday she wasn't asleep at 12:30 so I went ahead and gave her lunch and put her back down a little after one. That seemed to work okay and she slept until about 3:45, but she still seems to get too tired in the evening...she gets really wound up - and adrenline junkie like her mom. ;) Thanks for the help...I'll give it a week.

Of course, as soon as I nail down a two nap routine I have to change it....
