Mine started his terrible twos around Hannah's age. It's so hard to figure out how to handle it. I did the hand swat and isolation as Jen said. I learned really quick not to cuddle or sooth during a tantrum because then it just rewards the behavior!
When my baby started having tantrums, I noticed that they always occured when he was hungry, tired, or in pain (teething). By moving his lunch time half an hour earlier, letting him sleep a little longer, and giving him teething liquid or Calpol whenever he needed it, this virtually eliminated all tantrums. If Hannah has recently reached a new milestone, such as walking or talking, then she's likely to need a bit more sleep than usual, while she adjusts, plus she's likely to get hungry earlier than usual because she'll be burning off more energy. And 15 months old is a typical age for the back teeth / molars to start coming through, so watch out for any other signs of teething, such as red cheeks and excessive drooling. I haven't had to resort to spanking or time outs yet, as Thomas always behaves perfectly nicely once all his physical needs have been met - he's 19 months old.
